Man U 1-2 Man City

February 10th, 2008

City claim a deserved win, which was easier than the score suggests. United rarely threatened with clear cut chances and lose their unbeaten home record this season. Perhaps the occasion got the better of them, or is that just an excuse? City get the double over United for the first time since 1970.

Carrick bends a beauty into the bottom corner of the game, giving his claim as to why he should have started the game. Is it too little, too late? Are United to “Bayern-it” on the special Munich day?

After a mad scramble in the box Vassell slots home left-footed from close range at the second attempt to open the scoring. The chance came about after a brilliant through ball by Petrov and run by Ireland.

Petrov again the man at the centre of things - his whipped in cross is glanced home, thanks to Benjani’s shoulder - for a crucial debut goal! It’s the last noticable action of an enthralling first half. Who’d have predicted this score? It’s not as if United have been shell-shocked by the occasion because they’ve played decently too. City have just taken their chances.
